About Us

The Smyrna Diner has been a cultural staple of northern Delaware since 1956. Owned and operated by Sandy Margist and her family since 1972, our classic diner vibe conjures up a sense of nostalgia, complemented by our top-notch service and food. Whether you’re in for a quick cup of coffee, or one of our classic dishes, you’ll see the same friendly faces, our long-term staff, and loyal friends.

Since 1968, head chef Irene Bibbins has served up the tastiest classic American fare this side of Delaware Bay. Our ingredients are always fresh, and everything is cooked on site to order.

We now host private parties in our new banquet room. Our events feature:

  • A private banquet space
  • Seating for 50-75 guests
  • Our full catering menu, including beer and wine

In 2008, we made the important decision to move to a new, larger location allowing us to double our capacity. It was with a heavy heart that we said goodbye to our classic stainless steel home. But as we decorated our new walls with pictures from the old joint, we realized we took the best of the Smyrna Diner with us: our spirited and loyal staff, countless memories, and our faithful customers.

We were honored to win the Best of Delaware, Critics’ Choice Award for Best Restaurant in Smyrna when we moved to our new location on Cory Lane. We hope the Smyrna Diner tradition lives on for many years to come!
